Is the New BMW Z4 a Chick Car? BMW Officially Says it is!

In effort to increase total sales volume, BMW hopes to attract more women to dealerships with its latest, 2009 BMW Z4, Automotive News reports. Without citing official numbers, BMW spokesperson Friedbert Holz estimated men presently make up 80 to 90 percent of total Z4 sales.

According to Holz, the new design should appeal more to females. "The design of the new Z4 is not as masculine as it was before," he said. "It is more floating and round." Details

Chick car or not, we kind of like it. The way we'd describe it is, "It's certainly more elegant than the previous Z4, but at the expense of being less sporty." Which as BMW obviously sees it, is not a bad thing. Guess we (performance-enthusiasts) can't have our cake and eat it too. As Motor Trend put it during their review, "...It's a clear signal that BMW isn't aiming the Z4 at purists, anymore, and that the car has become something else. The two-seat roadster has gained six inches in overall length, has a wider track, a standard two-piece electrohydraulically raised and lowered (in 20 seconds) aluminum top and its first iDrive control, with an 8.8-in. display screen..." But it sure is a looker, and it's all BMW.
